Testimony #1
The first week has been challenging in many ways. The level of intensity of the physical training is more than expected, but I really enjoy pushing myself. My mind is being challenged equally as much as my body and I look forward to seeing how both transform over the next couple weeks.
It’s an honor to be able to learn from Shifu. I find myself both impressed and intimidated by his skill, and know I have found a great teacher.
I’m grateful to everyone who contributes to this community. Warm meals, supportive and patient teachers, and my fellow students are helping me to adjust to the rules, rituals and disciplines of temple life.
I look forward to challenging myself further over the next couple weeks and feeling more at home here.

Testimony #2
After one week of the Water Taiji course I am feeling grateful for the experience of being at the Five Immortals. Foremost I’m grateful for all of our teachers, their patience while we become accustomed to temple life and the rules and rituals that accompany it. While some elements are foreign to me, it’s been helpful to be met with kindness in this regard. I appreciate that everyone treats one another with kindness and respect, and in that sense it does feel like a home away from home.
The Taijiquan is much more difficult than I anticipated, both mentally and physically and I definitely feel outside of my comfort zone but in a good way. Physically it’s a different kind of movement than what I am used to and I’m activating new muscles. Mentally there is so much to remember and the small details of the form that I hope will one day stick into my consciousness. I am loving the morning Qi Gong and can already feel changes in my body from the mental and physical practices. I would love to understand more of the theory behind both the Qi Gong and Taijiquan as I think this will deepen my understanding and help with the practical application. The food has been great and I am grateful for the warm and nourishing meals that are prepared for us 🙂
